49th Ai no Izumi A Sony Group Charity Program
Save Sumatra Forest & Stop Climate Change

Under the joint sponsorship of Sony Group’s 22 companies and two foundations, we are implementing the 49th Ai no Izumi, a charity fund-raising event.

Ai no Izumi (*1) This charity drive has been held every year since 1968.The donations received at WWF Japan will go to support both of its “Forest Conservation Project in Sumatra” and “Climate and Energy Project”.

The tropical rainforests in Sumatra Island, Indonesia, are precious areas fostering one of the richest biodiversity in the world. Deforestation in Sumatra has caused serious threats to endangered and rare wild species such as Sumatran Elephants, Rhinoceros, and Tigers by destroying their habitats, and also exacerbated the climate change by emitting huge amount of CO2 and by deteriorating the forests’ function of carbon fixation.

*1 Ai no Izumi (Fountain of Love)
The Fountain of Love is based on the Trevi Fountain in Rome. It is said that if you throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain, you will find happiness. Since 1968, the Sony Building has used its own version of the famous fountain to collect money for charity.

Commemorating the publication of “Sony Design: MAKING MODERN”
Exhibition of historic Sony products and photos embracing its designs

Sony Design: MAKING MODERN
-The Challenge to Create an Archetype-

Since its foundation in 1946, Sony has maintained the spirit of “doing what has never been done before,” and has created numerous products and designs that symbolize the evolvement of time. This is the spirit that Sony has always had, and that will never change. Sharing an appreciation for this attitude, Rizzoli International Publications of New York, with an established reputation in art and design books, decided to publish “Sony Design: MAKING MODERN.” The book contains photos testifying to Sony’s history, and new photos taken of Sony’s successive designs.

An exhibition will be held at Sony Building of Ginza in Tokyo to commemorate the publication of this book. Around 30 products from the 70s to today will be placed on display. Historic products such as the original WALKMANR, which gave birth to today's "listen on the go" lifestyle,” and the Profeel, which created a new concept in TVs, are nostalgic, yet fresh even today. PlayStation® and other more recent products will also be put on display, giving insights into the evolution and maturation of designs. We look forward to your visit.

Sound Planetarium 2014
Experience a Trip to the Mysterious Moon through High-Resolution Music.

“Sound Planetarium 2014,” based on the theme, “A Trip to the Moon,” will be held in Communication Zone OPUS on the 8th floor of the Sony Building in, Ginza, Tokyo, from Friday, November 7 to Thursday, December 25, 2014.

● “Sound Planetarium” is an event based on the new concept of experiencing the true expansiveness of music through Sony’s high-end audio equipment, by allowing people to enjoy high-resolution music in combination with the projected images of a star-filled sky.

● MEGASTAR-II, developed by planetarium creator, Takayuki Ohira, is an opt-mechanical planetarium projector that is capable of projecting 10 million stars, which would normally not be visible to the naked eye. This is the planetarium that will be used at the event to recreate the sky filled with countless glittering stars.

● Japanese singer, Fumiya Fujii, will be the navigator to guide you through space where the mysterious Moon and star-filled sky await.

● A total of six tunes, proudly presented by Sony Music, will be played during the sound planetarium event, including the music of popular Japanese artists and Michael Jackson’s latest hit, “Love Never Felt So Good.”

● Each screening will include three pieces of music played to match the storyline, with uplifting music at the beginning as you set out on a journey to the Moon, the closest celestial body to the Earth, music to listen to as you gaze upon the Earth from the Moon, and climactic (orchestral) music as you return to the Earth overflowing with scintillating music.

It will be a planetarium show that is a cut above the rest, allowing you to enjoy awesome, powerful High-Resolution Audio (*1). If you are ever in Tokyo to do some sightseeing, we invite you to come and enjoy yourself at the Sony Building.

(*1) High-Resolution Audio is a recording that is in PCM or DSD format with data generally surpassing (higher sampling frequency or number of bits) that of CDs (44.1 kHz / 16 bit) and DAT (48 kHz / 16 bit).
